David Selby's multifaceted career spans stage, television, and film. He has also been involved in live radio theatre performances, and he has written books, plays, and poetry.



Theatre

David Selby and Ellen Burstyn in A Long Day's Journey into Night David's career began on stage in West Virginia. Following his work at West Virginia University and Southern Illinois University, he was involved with the Barter Theatre and the Cleveland Play House. More recently, he has appeared at Ford's Theatre as Abraham Lincoln in The Heavens Are Hung in Black and Necessary Sacrifices and at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts as Sen. George Mallonee in The City of Conversation. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has appeared in several virtual plays produced by Smartphone Theatre.

Television

David Selby and the cast of Falcon Crest David Selby's first major television role was as Quentin Collins on the ABC afternoon gothic drama Dark Shadows in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The show continues to be popular among fans who gather for annual conventions.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, David could be seen as Richard Channing in the primetime drama Falcon Crest. The show continues to have a devoted following, both in the United States and in Europe.

In addition to his regular series roles, David has made guest appearances on numerous television shows, including The Waltons, Kojak, Ally McBeal, Cold Case, Mad Men, and, most recently, NCIS: New Orleans.

He has also appeared in a number of television movies and miniseries, including Jackie Collins' Lady Boss and, in 2011, Deck the Halls, based on the the novel by the mother-daughter writing team of Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark.

Film

Lara Parker and David Selby in Night of Dark Shadows David Selby's film career began with Night of Dark Shadows, the second film based on the Dark Shadows television series. He has worked with noted directors such as Tim Burton, George Cukor, David Fincher, Joel Schumacher, and Ridley Scott.

In 2012, David, along with three other original Dark Shadows series actors, appeared in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp.
