New Books by David Selby

Light and Shadows
Light and Shadows

Two new books by David Selby, a poetry collection and a novel, will be released in March 2015.

Light and Shadows collects the poems/songs that David has presented at recent Dark Shadows gatherings:

David Selby began his television acting career portraying Quentin Collins in the daytime serial Dark Shadows in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Appearing first as a ghost in modern times and later as a living person under a werewolf curse in the 1800s, Quentin was a complex, evolving character who lived in both the light and the shadows as the supernatural series shifted its storylines across the centuries.

Light and Shadows presents a collection of original poems and song lyrics composed by Selby that have been influenced by not only his Dark Shadows days but also his experiences and emotions in life away from show business. He explores the joys and sorrows of the real world imbued with a sense of gratitude, a touch of whimsy and a resounding hope for the future.

Dozens of rare and previously unpublished photos from Selby’s life and career are included.

Personalized signed copies of Light and Shadows may be purchased through David Selby’s official website, DavidSelby.com.

Promises of Love
Promises of Love

Promises of Love, a work of fiction, is scheduled for a March 20 release.

Here is a description of the book from the publisher, Headline Books:

A product of usually beautiful but sometimes cruel southern Appalachia, Daniel Friend overcomes poverty, abuse, and personal tragedy to establish an identity. Inspired by the strength and love of his older sister, he realizes the power of education to lead him to a life he has imagined for himself–the pinnacle of his ambition is to graduate from Harvard University. That he does not get this opportunity, devastating as it is to his life plan, does not prevent him from becoming a beloved doctor, loving husband and father. Although well-meaning, he stumbles in his relationship with his two children as he tries to interject his own preferences into their lives. A deeply felt story of love, the novel examines the boundaries of a family, of its secrets, of the complex web family relationships can weave. Finally, the novel examines the damage that abandonment, poverty, and childhood neglect can do to a human personality, damage that sometimes cannot be overcome.

Personalized signed copies of Promises of Love will be available through David Selby’s official website, DavidSelby.com, after it is released on March 20, 2015. In the meantime, the Kindle edition is available for immediate download and the paperback edition may be pre-ordered from Amazon.com.

Dark Shadows Island Weekend

As has been reported on David’s web site and through various Dark Shadows outlets, the Dark Shadows Festival will hold its Dark Shadows Island Weekend in Coronado, California on April 27-28, 2013. Events on April 27 focus on the premiere of Dr. Mabuse at the Coronado Village Theatre. David will join the festivities on April 28 at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort.

Among the events scheduled for Sunday, April 28, is a performance by David Selby accompanied by James Storm (Gerard Stiles). David and Jim have been working hard over the past few weeks to put together something memorable for Dark Shadows fans. The show will be comprised of approximately twelve songs, and will last around 90 minutes to an hour.

Here is what David has to say about the songs:

They are personal songs written as a thank-you to the fans and as an homage to Dark Shadows and the fans. . . . The show is for them because they have been there all the way, while many joined in later, but all are so appreciated.

To register for the Dark Shadows Island Weekend, please consult the event flyer or the Dark Shadows Festival web site. Please note that schedules are approximate and may be adjusted during the event as necessary.

We look forward to seeing you there!
